Where

Columbus, OHIO, USA

Description

Theme: "Limitations and exceptions for libraries in the copyright legislation of the Latin America and the Caribbean countries: a call for action".

The Latin America and the Caribbean Section invites all the National Libraries Association and Colleges of Librarians from LAC (members of our integrated project “Impact of the copyright legislation on libraries in Latin America and the Caribbean”) to present their outcome in the LAC Session on Limitations and exceptions for libraries in the copyright legislation of the Latin America and the Caribbean countries: a call for action, during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Columbus, Ohio, USA, 13-19 August 2016.

The Latin American and Caribbean Section at WLIC 2016 aims to present an analytical map of the main difficulties, problems and situations that LAC libraries are facing in fulfilling their duties to continue offering quality services adapted to the digital age. So the 20 countries which integrate our project are invited to present their testimonies and stories of the experiences of libraries in Latin America and the Caribbean facing problems caused by the lack of updating national copyright laws. Listening all of them will be a very strong and practical regional overview than can be useful to demonstrate and to reinforce the region needs to develop an international legal instrument that harmonizes the quilt that presents the current global landscape.
