IFLA would like to wish the Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) a successful Library and Information Week 2016.

Responding to the call to action set by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, LIAJA has set itself the goal to educate as many of Jamaica’s people as possible about the opportunities presented in the 2030 Agenda.

Library advocates from Jamaica have succeeded in raising the profile of libraries in their country and ensured that libraries, and the importance they play in sustainable development, are mentioned in the National Development Plan of Jamaica. The Plan calls to widen access to repositories (libraries, museums and archives) of culture and heritage. In accordance with national legislation and international agreements, this aim fits with a UN 2030 Agenda target IFLA has been actively involved with: Target 16.10 Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms.

We are looking forward to seeing the outcomes of the Library and Information Week 2016.
