Wikipedia - Libraries

Over the past year, Librarians and Wikipedians have been working together to showcase the many successful collaborations between libraries and Wikipedia. Starting with the first Wikipedia #1lib1ref campaign, we developed Opportunities papers which highlight the many ways libraries and Wikipedia are already engaging to verify information and make it accessible.

The papers focus on Academic and Research Libraries and on Public Libraries and are an introduction to the many facets of interaction between libraries and the reference website. They encourage librarians world-wide to engage more with Wikipedia, guided by the examples outlined. But they are also a starting point for further IFLA work on the practical and policy issues raised by the rise in the number of people generating their own content online, not least through Wikipedia.

We also support this year’s #1lib1ref campaign which is running for three full weeks (15 January – 3 February) and suggest that everyone gets actively involved!
