General selection criteria The Japanese National Bibliography (JNB) is the national bibliography of Japan. It lists and describes the materials newly published or distributed in Japan that are received by the National Diet Library under legal deposit as provided for in the National Diet Library Law.
Selection criteria for digital resources

The coverage of the JNB was widened to include packaged electronic publications following the extension of legal deposit to this class of material in 2000.

On July 1, 2013, the e-legal deposit of online publications started based on the National Diet Library Law revised in June 2012. According to this, the JNB has begun to include online publications since March 2014.

Exclusions policies applied Secret documents, ephemera. Motion pictures are also excluded for the duration.

The JNB is provided as a single integrated bibliography through the NDL-OPAC. A MARC version of the JNB is distributed separately as JAPAN/MARC.

The JNB of online publications is provided separately through the “NDL Search” which is the NDL’s integrated search system.

The JNB can be downloaded through the NDL-OPAC in a wide variety of formats including JAPAN/MARC MARC21 format, character-separated values, citation, etc.

On annual subscription, JAPAN/MARC files are delivered on CD-R, DVD, MARC exchange file etc.
