LIS Education in Developing Countries Special Interest Group

Theme: "Collaboration in LIS education in developing countries using social media"

IFLA LIS Education in Developing Countries Special Interest Group invites you to submit a proposal for papers to be presented at its 2-hour open session at the 84th IFLA World Library and Information Congress to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 24-30 August 2018.

Session Theme:

LIS Education in Developing Countries Special Interest Group, sponsored by Education and Training Section, is focused on curriculum development as well as policy and procedure design for assessment and accreditation of LIS schools in the developing countries.

We are seeking papers that address how the use of social media can enable or improve collaboration in any aspect of LIS education in developing countries.

Submission guidelines:

Proposals must be submitted by 18 March 2018, be original and previously unpublished work of author(s), written in English, and include:

  1. Title of the proposed paper;
  2. Name(s) of author(s);
  3. Professional role (or official title of author(s));
  4. Author’s institutional affiliation, if any;
  5. Author’s e-mail address;
  6. Abstract of the proposed paper (up to 500 words); and
  7. Short professional bios of presenter(s) – (up to 200 words).

Selection of papers is based on the abstract, and presenters will be notified whether they have been successful by 31 March 2018.

The full paper is due by 31 May 2018. Completed papers should not be more than 4,000 words, single-spaced in Times New Roman 12 point in MS Word. Papers should be in English.

Presentation at the Conference:

The open session will feature presentations of 15 minutes in length.

Presenters are encouraged to plan time for discussion and interaction at the session, rather than having paper presentations only.

Please note

At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program in Malaysia. Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.

All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2018 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.

Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
