First Regional Workshop 2018

With the determination to achieve a strong and united library field powering literate, informed and participative societies, the second phase in our IFLA Global Vision journey continues.

After the launch of the IFLA Global Vision Report Summary, followed by an engaging Global Vision Kick-off Workshop in Barcelona, Spain on 20-21 March, the first of six IFLA Global Vision Regional Workshops in 2018 will take place in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region on 11-12 April.

The impressive Biblioteca del Congreso de Chile in Santiago de Chile will be the host for this next stop in the Global Vision discussion. Participants from nearly 30 Latin American and the Caribbean countries will engage in a 2-day workshop to make their own unique contribution to the biggest ‘ideas store’ for actions—a source of inspiration for all librarians and for IFLA in planning for the future.

After each Regional workshop, IFLA will encourage and support the library sector in the region to organise national and local discussions to continue gathering together as many voices as possible to help shape the future of the library field.

IFLA Secretary General, Gerald Leitner, says:

“I’m delighted to return to LAC for the first Global Vision regional workshop of 2018. Librarians from all over the LAC region made a huge contribution to the discussions that led to the IFLA Global Vision key finding, highlights and opportunities, and I am eager to hear their ideas to turn this vision into reality.”

About the IFLA Global Vision

IFLA Global Vision is an initiative to provide an inclusive, global response from a united library field to tackling the challenges facing the library field from ever-increasing globalisation. Never before has there been such an initiative, which gives every single librarian in the world the chance to contribute, and never before have so many librarians from so many parts of the world contributed to one global conversation.
