Lynn Jibril has been selected to receive the 2013 CILIP/IFLA Aspire award for a new professional.

IFLA and CILIP launched the Aspire Award in memory of CILIP's Chief Executive Bob McKee, who died in August 2010. The Award supports Bob's strong interests in developing new professionals and strengthening international relationships by providing bursaries for new professionals to attend CILIP and IFLA conferences.

For 2013, IFLA is providing an international bursary to support a new professional with a grant for up to 3,000 EUR to cover registration for the IFLA congress this year in Singapore, accommodation, flights, and per diem.

Lynn Jibril holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Botswana and a Diploma in Secondary Education. She serves actively in professional associations such as Botswana library Association, Botswana Teachers’ Union and Botswana Secondary teachers’ Union. She has contributed significantly to the setting up of school libraries in Botswana and has continued to provide hands on practical skills on the organisation of school libraries in Botswana.

In addition, Lynn has co-authored position papers on the role of the teacher librarian in the educational system of a developing economy. She is a strong advocate of improved status of school librarians and libraries and is currently involved in a project aimed at uplifting school libraries with provision of modern connectivity technology to enhance learning in schools.
