12 February 2019: Capacity building Workshops 

1. Creative commons licenses in libraries

The session is about 2 hours long and will be delivered by Ms. Hala Essalmawi, Principal Attorney and Intellectual Property Rights Officer at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA).  See the BA's A2K website for more infiormation: https://www.bibalex.org/a2k/home/home.aspx

Ms. Essalmawi is the Project Lead of the Library’s access to Knowledge initiative and the editor of its website. Ms. Essalmawi is also the Project Lead for Creative Commons in Egypt and the research coordinator for the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) ―Consumer Protection in the Microfinance Industry Research Project. She holds a Bachelors of Law and a Masters of Law from the Faculty of Law, Alexandria University, a post -graduate Diploma in International Law and Development, the Institute of  Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands, and an LL.M in Intellectual Property, Turin University, Italy. Her areas of interest include law and development, intellectual property rights, access to knowledge and microfinance. Her mother tongue is Arabic and she is fluent in English.

2. Marketing challenges in African libraries

The session is about 2 hours long and will be delivered by the BA Networks & Outreach Team. This will be a discussion about the marketing challenges African libraries face, with a focus on the BA experience in the Egyptian community and online outreaching to African countries.
