A New Name for the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section

In December 2014 the IFLA Professional Committee approved changing the name of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section to Rare Books and Special Collections. The change culminates several years of discussion.
The new name is intended to: 1) better reflect the diversity of rare and unique collections, 2) acknowledge how many libraries are now organized, and 3) more effectively represent the role of special collections in the changing library environment and their relevance in today’s world.
