Last Chance: Pick up your voting documents!

Voting papers will be distributed only to those delegates who are in possession of the IFLA Vot­ing Form 2010, duly signed by the appropriate authority.

►Be sure to collect your voting papers as early as possible. Please do not leave it until the last minute!

Henning Mankell informal session

Today around 70 people attended an informal talk with Henning Mankell at the Gothenburg University Library. The room was filled with IFLA delegates who all were excited to listen to him talk and to ask him questions. In general the questions asked were about Africa, libraries and politics.

Opening ceremony of the 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly

Last year’s conference in Milan ended with a greeting from the Swedish IFLA committee; “See you in Gothenburg!” As the delegates entered Hall B for the opening session on Wednesday they were greeted by librarian volunteers and given a bag of popular Swedish candy with the words “Happy to see you!” The atmosphere was happy indeed. How can it not be when over 3000 librarians are gathered in the same room?

New IFLA World Report to be launched today

IFLA is pleased to announce the launch of its brand new World Report. For the first time, the World Report is being made available online in a fully searchable database, complete with graphical map interface. The new report, which has been developed by a team at the University of Pretoria led by Professor Theo Bothma, contains details of the library environment in 122 countries. Full details will be made available online Saturday, 14 August.

Namali Suraweera, Sri Lanka - Grantee in the Spotlight

Namali sees this conference as a big opportunity to continue her introduction to international librarianship after participating in an ALP workshop in 2008. She sees the Congress as a great opportunity to network with other professionals, share experiences, and gain solution to problems. Namali is especially interested in ideas she can use to put new technology into practice when she returns home.
