UNESCO session

This session gave an interesting overview on the work done in the UNESCO Information for All Programme (IFAP). The session consisted of two keynote speakers: Peter Lor, former IFLA Secretary General, who gave a speech on the 65-year IFLA-UNESCO partnership, and Evgeny Kuzmin, chairman of UNESCO IFAP who spoke about the importance of the knowledge society. Later, there was an inspiring panel discussion about the different aspects of IFAP work, mainly in the areas of digital information preservation, media and information literacy.

Important work has been done during the last two years. UNESCO formally endorsed the IFLA Manifesto for Digital Libraries  at its November 2011 General Conference and in October 2011 the Moscow Declaration on Digital Information Preservation was adopted.

There were many participants and the subject provoked an eager discussion.
