Call for Papers

Health and Biosciences Libraries Section

Theme: "Consumer Health: Health Literacy, Patient Empowerment & Health Promotion"

In support of “Libraries Driving Access to Knowledge”, the IFLA Health and Biosciences Libraries Section invites submission of abstracts for presentation on information services or programs that support an informed patient and other consumers of health services. Some examples of topics that would be welcome:

  • Advancing and supporting health literacy
  • Patient empowerment
  • Patient decision support
  • Health promotion
  • Patient information services
  • Disease prevention
  • Access to health information

It is anticipated that presentations be 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions

Submission

The proposals must be the original work of the author(s). Each abstract must contain:

  • Title of paper
  • Summary of paper (250 – 350 words maximum)
  • Speaker's name, address, telephone and fax numbers, professional affiliation, email address and biographical note (40 words)

Important dates

  • 1 February 2009: Deadline for submission of abstract
  • 15 March 2009: Notification of acceptance/rejection
  • 15 May 2009: Deadline for submission of full paper

Regrettably IFLA's Sections do not have funds available to pay for speakers' expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation, although there may be limited funding available through other IFLA channels, especially for people from developing countries.
