Call for Papers

UNIMARC Core Activity

Theme: "UNIMARC and the future of catalogues"

The IFLA UNIMARC Core Activity invites proposals for papers and presentations for its open session in the World Library and Information Congress: 75th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, Milan, 23-27 August 2009.

In a time of many ongoing changes in the way library catalogues and their underlying standards are being rethought, it is important to elicit ideas and discussion, as well as the sharing of experiences on making the most of UNIMARC data and envisage the way forward to its evolution. The session will focus on topics of interest for improving bibliographic online services that have impact on the current use and future requirements of UNIMARC data structures, and data mining and management.

Contributions are invited that provide reflections or experiences on topics such as:

  • UNIMARC bibliographic and FRBR
  • UNIMARC authorities and FRAD
  • UNIMARC and the emerging new cataloguing codes
  • Implementations of UNIMARC in Open Source software
  • Reports on successful catalogue building using records downloaded from different sources, commercial and public domain
  • Features and functionalities required by UNIMARC professional users
