Library and Information Science Education in Latin America and the Caribbean: Opportunities and Challenges

Objectives:

  • To discuss the challenges LIS education are facing in the region
  • To encourage exchange of ideas and experience amongst LIS educators from the region
  • To explore opportunities of collaboration in teaching, research and continuing professional development

The LIS Education in Developing Countries SIG with Latin America and the Caribbean Section (LAC) invite you to submit an abstract in ENGLISH and SPANISH of no more than 300 words in electronic format related to the theme and which may cover the following topics:

  • Faculty – teaching – research – mentoring
  • Student – recruitment – retention
  • Collaboration – networking – sharing of resources
  • Continuing professional development
  • Distance education
  • Integration of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT)

The proposal must include: 

  1. Name(s) of Presenter(s)
  2. Institutional affiliation
  3. Mailing address
  4. E-mail address
  5. Phone number
  6. Title of paper
  7. Brief biographical statement maximum 100 words

Proposals

Selected presenters will be expected to submit final versions of their papers by May, 15th, 2011. Papers should be in all official languages of IFLA: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish. However an English translation will be welcome. Simultaneous translation will be offered during the session

Important Dates:

  1. Proposal must be received by March 10, 2011
  2. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent by March 25, 2011
  3. Deadline of final paper submission is June 1st., 2011. The final paper should not be more than 5, 000 words in length.
  4. Deadline of English version of the paper submission is July 1st., 2011.

Submissions

All proposals must be in before 10 March 2011.

Please note

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.
