IFLAcamp: New Professionals Now!

Call for videos

Date

9-10 August 2012

Location

Verkatehdas, Hämeenlinna, Finland

Theme and scope

IFLAcamp is the first genuine IFLA satellite unconference ever! The barcamp style will allow for active participation of all attendees and the inclusion of all kinds of topics related to New Professionalism, emerging technologies and innovation in libraries that prey on your minds!

The permission to attend a conference is often connected to an accepted paper or poster. To provide you such possibility and, at the same time, keep the barcamp spirit alive, we have decided to give you a shot and try something new by asking you to submit your own video proposal for IFLAcamp.

This is how it works:

  1. think of a challenging topic;
  2. record a video and explain your idea;
  3. upload it to YouTube (preferable);
  4. tag your video with IFLAcamp;
  5. be a part of IFLAcamp.

Your video proposal should be no longer than 3 to 5 minutes and start with the following phrase: "I'm a (new) LIS professional and ...". It will serve as an introduction for a discussion you are going to moderate at IFLAcamp and, therefore, is required to be in English language.

All videos will be available for open peer review in January and February 2012: We will publish all submissions in the NPSIG's blog. Everybody will be invited to give comments and take part in a voting process which will result in a pre-selection of topics from your videos. The final IFLAcamp agenda will be built of pre-selected proposals and spontaneous proposals on the spot. As seats for IFLAcamp will be limited, a pre-selected proposal will give you the further advantage of a reserved ticket.

Important deadline

31 December 2011: Please send the link of your video or the video itself (including topic and tags) and additional information about yourself (name, country, affiliation/institution, position) to be included in our blog to: npsig.ifla@gmail.com.

If access to broadband or video making tools are hampering issues for you or you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

We are looking forward to your proposal!

Submissions

All proposals must be in before 31 December 2011.

Please note

IFLAcamp is a satellite meeting which can be attended independently from the IFLA Congress in Helsinki (however, we strongly recommend to attend both!). Participation is planned to be free of charge. We will offer a special price for accommodation on-site for all participants that will be part of the registration process.

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.

Congress Attendance Grants

The Finnish National Committee and IFLA have worked hard to secure funds for Conference Participation Grants. Up-to-date information is available on our Conference Participation Grants webpage.
