Core Activity on Preservation and Conservation (PAC)

Theme:
Storage and Repositories: New Preservation and Access strategies

Following the general theme of Helsinki Congress: "Libraries Now! - Inspiring, Surprising, Empowering", we would like to present new developments in terms of preservation and physical or virtual storage.

IFLA Core Activity on Preservation and Conservation (PAC) invites you to submit a short proposal for a presentation on the conference theme for its session at the IFLA Congress 2012 in Helsinki. In the two-hour session, we aim to have four presentations.

Theme and Objectives

The expected audience is likely to include librarians, architects, project managers in charge of new repositories inside libraries or archives, as well as storage renovation.

Papers may be written in English, and will be presented in this language. Abstracts need to be submitted to the IFLA-PAC Director by 30 March 2012. The author will be notified of acceptance by 30 April 2012. The full paper and accompanying presentation slides must be completed submitted to IFLA before June 2012 (exact date will be posted later).

Topics

We are particularly interested in presentations on the following topics although other topics will also be considered:

  • Special storages: cold storage, low oxygen storage…with a focus on costs and specific issues or benefits met by the library staff.
  • Renovation, transformation and extension of traditional storages: feasibility studies and results.
  • Requirements in storage towards a better dynamic management of collection.
  • Specificity and solutions for virtual repository focusing on mass and long-term preservation.
  • New tools of storage monitoring.

All proposals must be sent before 30 March 2012 to:
