Papers are invited to be presented at 78th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, Helsinki, Finland in August 2012.

Theme: The Role of Libraries in Data Curation, Access, and Preservation: an International Perspective

Data curation, access, and preservation are integral to the advancement of research in science and technology. For further definition and clarification of the role of data in research see the Digital Curation Centre (DCC) website.

The session will focus on the role of libraries and librarians in data curation in various countries and the challenges associated with establishing and operating data curation repositories, on a local or national level.

Proposals must focus on one or more of the following topics:

  1. Key issues confronted in establishing a national plan for data curation.
  2. The role of libraries in establishing data curation repositories.
  3. A financial model for sustaining data curation within the library and/or university.
  4. Training and preparation of librarians to participate in data curation.

Submission Guidelines

Proposal abstract (max 500 words) must be submitted by January 16, 2012, on any one or more of the topics listed above, with the topic to be discussed clearly identified by number from list above. Submission is to include presenter's name, position, institution, and email address.

Notification of acceptance of proposals will be completed by February 15, 2012

Important dates

January 15, 2012: Deadline for submitting abstracts

February 15, 2012: Deadline for notifications of acceptance

May 15, 2012: Deadline for submission of final papers

Submissions

All proposals must be in before 16 January 2012.

Please note

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.
