Research resources for Parliamentarians

The IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section invites proposals for presentations at the Section's programme in Singapore 17-23 August 2013. The main theme of the Singapore conference is Future Libraries: Infinite Possibilities.

This session will focus on the role of research resources in supporting Parliamentarians to be well-informed. We are looking for up to 5 presentations for this 2 hour session.

We invite papers that:

  • Demonstrate how the needs of parliamentarians as users of research services drive the creation and delivery products and services
  • Show the role of research in helping Parliamentarians be well-informed
  • Look at the part played by research in the induction of new Parliamentarians and in their continuing professional development
  • Explore organisational questions, including the relationship between research and library professionals within Parliaments
  • Consider links between internal Parliamentary research resources and other research organisations within the country
  • Assess the effectiveness of global and regional networks operating to support Parliamentary research resources and knowledge sharing

Submissions

Please send an abstract (1 page or about 300 words), in English or French, of the proposed paper and relevant biographical information of the author(s)/presenter(s) by 1 March 2013 to:

Abstracts received will be reviewed by members of the Standing Committee. Successful proposals will be identified by 10 March 2013. Full papers will be due by 31st May 2013 to allow time for review of papers and preparation of translations by IFLA.

Additional Information

15-20 minutes will be allowed for delivery of the paper during the session.

Please note that the Section has a pre-conference from 15-16 August hosted by the Singapore Parliament at Li Ka Shing Library, Singapore Management University on the theme Making Better Laws: The Unique Role of Parliamentary Library and Research Services.

Members of the Section will also be interested in other sessions at the conference, notably those led by the IT, Law and Knowledge Management Sections.

Submissions

All proposals must be in before 1 March 2013.

Please note

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.

Congress Attendance Grants

The Singapore National Committee and IFLA have worked hard to secure funds for Conference Participation Grants. Up-to-date information will be available on our Conference Participation Grants webpage.
