Government Libraries Section with Government Information and Official Publications Section

The session is a co-sponsored program between IFLA Government Libraries Section and Government Information and Official Publications Sections.

A joint session of Government Libraries Section and Government Information and Official Publications Section is inviting professionals to present proposals for a two-hour programme that seeks to answer the following question: What current services are offered in government libraries that involve the management or promotion of knowledge platforms?

In keeping with the overall theme of the conference - 'Librarians, Citizens, Societies: Confluence of Knowledge' - the session aims to address the ways that libraries and information services in government agencies are putting in place programs and projects where information and knowledge can be systematized and shared, contributing to solving particular public issues.

Subjects of interest may include:

• Experiences on information governance strategy in the public sector
• Digital library projects and repositories for documents / web content
• Evolution of platforms for digital information resources
• Ongoing projects regarding the management of demographic data
• Information reuse projects and the role of government libraries

Proposals should include:

• Title of the discussion topic
• Abstract of no more than 250 words
• Name, e-mail address, position (title) of presenter(s)
• A brief biographical statement of no more than 50 words

The format of the session will be flexible and interactive. Selected presenters will be expected to introduce topics by way of a 5-10 minute presentation. They will then chair round table sessions with participants from the audience, discussing the impact of these topics on government library services, how effectively to put the ideas introduced in the presentation in place, and more. The outcome of each discussion group will be given by the original speaker or a Section member as a session wrap-up.

The proposals will be evaluated and notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent by 10 March 2014.

The presenters selected for roundtable program participation will have their name, affiliation, and discussion topic abstract included on the IFLA conference website and the Sections' websites. For collective proposals, at least one of the authors must be present during the session.

The session will be conducted in English. All proposals will be required to be in English. Final presentations can be submitted in one of the official IFLA working languages. If any of them is written in other official IFLA language than English, an accompanying translation in English must be attached.
