Access to Information Network Africa (ATINA) Special Interest Group

ATINA invites proposals for papers to be presented at its Open Session during the 2014 IFLA World Library and Information Congress/ 80th Annual Conference, Lyon, France, 16-22 August 2014.

ATINA, a global network of development information professionals concerned with broadening effective access to information and knowledge for development in Africa, is an IFLA Special Interest Group sponsored by Africa Section.

Themes & Topics:

"Effective access to information as key to sustainable poverty reduction and thriving in Africa"

Sub-Themes

1. Access to information, action learning and empowerment for thriving.
2. Best practice in development librarianship and knowledge management.
3. Success stories of individual, business or/and community thriving through effective information access and use.
4. Service for empowerment of underserved populations: rural and urban women, the disabled, the poor, the illiterate, the incarcerated, etc.
5. Opportunities, challenges, implications and solutions for library services of predominance of cell phones as the main tool for Internet access in Africa.
6. Information intensification for positive outcomes/effectiveness of development programmes, including the use of digital and social media.
7. Empowering oral cultures to innovate and change in the 21 century.
8. Libraries, UN Millennium Development Goals and Post-2015 development agenda.
9. Beyond information literacy: information solutions to poverty.
10. Facilitating access to information where there is no library.

Submission Guidelines

Proposals must be original work of author(s), address one or more of the sub-themes, written in English or French, and include:

1. Title of proposed paper.
2. Name(s) of author(s).
3. Professional role (or official title of author(s)).
4. Author's institutional affiliation, if any.
5. Author's E-mail address, telephone/fax numbers.
6. Abstract of the proposed paper (about 200 words); and
7. Short professional profiles of presenter(s) - about four lines each.

Length of papers and presentations: Four papers will feature at the open session. Each paper is expected to be about 2000 words in length, and to be presented and discussed within 20 minutes in about 10 slides.

Readiness to attend and present paper: Authors should be prepared to attend the conference and present their papers in person.
