The Opening session will welcome you with two distinct facets of French culture on display: a presentation of some of the world’s first films by Lyon’s own Lumière Brothers and a vibrant dance performance by the Pockemon Crew.

Bruno RacineGérard Collomb

The session will include a welcome from Gérard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon and Bruno Racine, President of the National Library of France—both  Co-Chairs of IFLA WLIC 2014 National Committee.

Sinikka Sipilä

IFLA President Sinikka Sipilä will also give her opening address and set the stage for the coming days.

Aurélie FilippettiBenoît Hamon

Our guests of honour are Benoît Hamon, Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research and Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication.

Bernard Stiegler

Our Keynote Speaker is the renowned philosopher Bernard Stiegler, professor at Compiègne University of Technology and Professorial Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London.  He will give a speech concerning “The Future of Reading.”
