IFLA Trend ReportThe IFLA Trend Report was launched at WLIC 2013 by former IFLA President Ingrid Parent. In the 12 months since, the Trend Report has been the focus of discussions by library and information professionals around the world, as we consider ways in which libraries can evolve and adapt in the Internet age.

Since launch, the Trend Report Insights Document Riding the Waves or Caught in the Tide? Navigating the Evolving Information Environment has been translated into 14 languages, discussed in workshops across Europe, Africa, Latin America, North America, Asia & Oceania and influenced the production of regional and national reports considering the future for libraries in the digital information environment around the world.

Never intended to be a static resource, the IFLA Trend Report challenges libraries to make their own changes to meet the new opportunities and challenges of the internet age. The Trend Report “call to action!” continues at WLIC 2014 in Lyon, with several sessions explicitly and implicitly taking on the information trends identified.

Today, the MLAS and FAIFE Committees will jointly host an exciting program of five internationally-respected speakers reflecting on ways in which the information environment has moved on (or not) since launch of the Trend Report in 2013. Speakers include: Pierre Dillenbourg (EPFL Center for Digital Education), David Greene (Electronic Frontiers Foundation), Anriette Esterhuysen (Association for Progressive Communications), IFLA Governing Board member Loida Garcia-Febo and David Souter (Global Connectivity Group for Sustainable Development) to discuss online education, access to information, development, hyper-connectivity and privacy and surveillance.

On Thursday 21 August, IFLA President-Elect Donna Scheeder hosts lightning talks from library and information professionals around the world on their reflections on IFLA Trend Report, before diving into world café style discussions of ways in which the IFLA Trend Report, and the changing online environment, can be catalysts for change within our own institutions.  Hear from speakers from Singapore, Australia, Netherlands, South Africa, Mexico and the United States talk about their own information trends discussions and add your own reflections!
