For young scholars or seasoned professionals willing to maximize the impact of their research and take it to the next level, Session 67A on “How to get published?” was an excellent opportunity to glean some very helpful information.

Visiting professor Paul Sturges, from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, started the session by detailing the publication process and providing simple, yet often overlooked tips. His views on how to choose the right journal, seeking peer advice, handling rejections by peer reviews, or strategies to employ when publishing for the first time were all sound advice worth reminding. Sturges was full of recommendations for authors seeking to be published for the first time in an academic or professional journal.

Next followed a presentation of the IFLA Journal by Jerry W Mansfield, Chair of the IFLA Journal Editorial Committee. The Journal is an open access journal attracting contributions from more than 80 countries enabling it to have a particular reach in developing countries. With its abstracts available in 5 languages, the Journal’s global readership is one of its main strengths.

Ending the session was Caroline Lock, from Sage publications, who presented publishing opportunities with IFLA and various resources available to support authors on Sage’s website. Since last year, IFLA has its own repository of digital resources in the form of its IFLA Library.

Steve Witt, the new editor of IFLA Journal was also present on the panel to answer questions from the audience. For those who would like to learn more, they can always visit the Sage booth at the Exhibition hall.
