Visit French libraries with the Library Visits Programme

Library visits locations

Visits to French libraries will take place on 22 August, the last day of the IFLA Congress; a variety of locations are available. Some of them will take place in downtown Lyon or its surrounding areas, while others will take place with a maximum two hours travel time from Lyon by bus or train.

Library visits will be organized in different tours, each including one or more separate visits. Local visits will explore the libraries of Lyon and its surroundings (Vienne, Saint-Etienne, Givors…). Tours include visits of different types of libraries: public, university, specialized or school libraries. Vists to a number of archives will also be scheduled in Lyon and Paris.

Through the visits, participants will be able to discover some beautiful French regions. Congress participants will have the opportunity to visit a part of Southern France and discover the Bouches du Rhône, Provence and the Mediterranean regions, which are located two hours away from Lyon by train. Beaujolais and Bourgogne tours will invite the participants to explore a region renowned for its wine production. The mountains of the Alps will not be forgotten thanks to tours organized in Geneva (Switzerland) and Grenoble (eastern France). Paris will also offer a large panel of visits of libraries, with tours exploring diverse Parisian districts: “Latin Quarter”, “Eiffel Tower”, “Left Bank”, “Les Halles Quarter”…

Participants will need to register to take part. For local visits, delegates can register on site during the Congress. For visits outside Lyon, online booking during the Congress registration process is required. All the visits are free, but transportion costs will be borne by the delegates.
