Call for Papers

Audiovisual and Multimedia Section joint with Acquisition and Collection Development Section

Theme:
Managing Born-digital audiovisual or multimedia collections across the lifecycle

We invite you to submit a proposal for the joint session of Audiovisual and Multimedia Section co-sponsor with Acquisition and Collection Development Section the 81st IFLA General Conference and Assembly  to be held in Cape Town South Africa 15-21 August 2015.

Objectives

Libraries and archives increasingly need to manage media content in born-digital form. The amount of content is rapidly increasing, and the sense of urgency for tools, workflows and strategies is huge. In this open session we would like to view relevant guidelines and see use cases and examples of acquisition, ingest, management, distribution, access and preservation. The examples should illustrate reasonably achievable processes for institutions with preferably user driven, non-mass produced collections and resources with a focus on Audiovisual or Multimedia.

Topics can range from:

  • Strategies for management and preservation of digital collections
  • Preferred standards and file formats for ingest of digital material
  • Issues of longevity, integrity, and access e.g. streaming of digital material
  • practical use of recommended (IFLA-) guidelines

Proposals should reflect the theme of WLIC 2015, "Dynamic Libraries – Access, Development and Transformation" .
