Theme:
Impact of standards on the international library community

The IFLA Committee on Standards invites papers to be presented at 81st IFLA General Conference and Assembly, Cape Town, South Africa, 15-21 August 2015.

The session will focus on the use of standards in the international library and information community and their impact on services, policies and other standards. In pursuing our investigation on issues identified in the IFLA Trend Report, the session will seek contributions on how IFLA’s professional units are responding to the new and emerging trends and what impact standards will have on the evolution of the new directions in libraries and societies.

Contributions are invited on topics such as:

  • Outcomes of implementing library standards, especially IFLA standards (case studies, best practices, etc.)
  • Critical issues in the implementation of library standards, especially IFLA standards
  • Interaction between IFLA standards and other library standards
  • Cultural issues in the creation and use of  library standards, especially IFLA standards
  • Methodological issues in measuring the use, impact and outcomes of standards

Submission Guidelines

Proposals should be submitted in English by email. This should include:

  • an abstract (300 words)
  • biographical and contact information

Important dates and timelines

20 February 2015: Submission of abstract

9 March 2015: Notification to authors

30 May 2015: Submission of full text

Paper Presentation

Complete accepted papers should be 3000-6000 words in length, be an original submission not published elsewhere.

Final papers should be written in English to allow for wider translation possibilities. Every paper accepted must be presented in person by one of the authors at the IFLA WLIC in Cape Town, South Africa

Submissions

All proposals must be in before 20 February 2015.

Please note

At least one of the paper's authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program in Cape Town. Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.

All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2015 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Author Form.

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
