Libraries, archives and databases at the service of Asian and African genealogy
Genealogy and Local History Section (GENLOC) with Asia and Oceania Section are seeking proposals for papers to be presented at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Cape Town, South Africa 15-21, August 2015.
Proposals are welcome in IFLA languages other than English and especially from those countries of Asia which were not represented among the GENLOC Singapore presentations of 2013 from China and Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, India, Yemen.
Proposals are also welcome that relate to the subSaharan African genealogical record as preserved both orally and in colonial archives, and to the Arab and Turkic genealogical record in Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. Assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of different online genealogical databases for the regions are encouraged.
Proposals for papers must be submitted by e-mail. The deadline for submitting proposals will be 13 March 2015, but earlier submission would be appreciated at any time after 27 February.

The programme committee will respond to proposals on 15 March 2015.
Authors must be prepared to give presentations in person at the open session in Cape Town. The length of the presentations should be approximately 20 minutes. Papers may be submitted and delivered in any of the seven IFLA languages but should be accompanied by an English translation for the conference record. Some simultaneous interpretation will be available. Papers should be no more than 4000 words in length, and should be submitted ready to publish. According to IFLA policy, reproductions of presentation slides may form part of the published paper, but a coherent text must link and explain the slides, with introduction, argument and conclusions. The deadline for submitting accepted complete papers for publication in the conference proceedings is 15 May 2015, to the address indicated in the message of acceptance.

All proposals must be in before 13 March 2015.
At least one of the paper's authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program in Cape Town. Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2015 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Author Form.
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
