Getting e-books into libraries is a global hot topic, and the focus of an all day e-lending session at this year’s IFLA World Library & Information Congress. Four IFLA sections – Copyright & other Legal Matters (CLM), Management of Library Associations (MLAS), Public Libraries and Metropolitan Libraries – have joined forces to put together a comprehensive programme spanning e-book policy, e-lending principles for libraries and innovative e-lending models and advocacy initiatives around the world.

From 9:30am – 12:45pm in Exhibition Hall 404-405 (Session 97), CLM and MLAS host an e-book policy and principles discussion spanning all corners of the earth. Dan Mount (Civic Agenda) and YS Chi (International Publishers Association) join MLAS Chair Gerald Leitner to discuss the challenges facing libraries and publishers with the transformation of the media market, before Part 2 sees six speakers providing an update on topical e-book policy developments and issues in their geographical region. The morning closes with IFLA Governing Board member Paul Whitney introducing the IFLA e-lending principles at WLIC.

Then it’s time for lunch, but don’t go too far! Exploring an e-book future resumes at 1:45pm in Nicoll 3 (Session 109), with innovative e-lending models and advocacy initiatives on the agenda.

This interactive session hosted by Public Libraries and Metropolitan Libraries kicks off with speakers from libraries around the world sharing the cool things they’re doing in the e-book sphere. Then, attendees have an opportunity to share their own e-lending perspectives during a World Café discussion, and come up with some strategies to engage in the e-book future together.
