Annual Report 2019-20
Our Annual Report records our achievements and progress in relation to our Action Plan for the last year.
Read our Action Plan for the past year to see what we set out to achieve.
If you have questions about our work, suggestions about what you would like us to work on, or you would like to help us, please contact one of the members of the Standing Committee.
These are the activities that were undertaken during the year:
Adopted different strategies for Section Business Meetings at WLIC to be more inclusive, with the goal of empowering and enabling all (not just English speaking) individuals to freely participate in meetings and take on responsibilities.
Recommendations were made on how to remove barriers for those with limited English language proficiency skills, and such recommendations were shared with IFLA HQ as tips for hosting successful virtual events and meetings.
We will continue to improve and adopt such strategies for our Midyear and WLIC meetings in 2021.
- Continued to promote the IFLA/UNIESCO Multicultural Library Manifesto and Toolkit, with the addition of Russian and Spanish translations of the toolkit, now available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.
Activated networks to provide resources and information related to COVID-19’s impact on libraries. At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a demand in Australian libraries for signage in different languages. This created an opportunity for a partnership between IFLA and the Australian Library and Information Association, leading to the creation of more than 30 different translations, with contributions from members across the global library network.
The prevalence of COVID-19 also contributed to the decision to focus the June newsletter on how libraries have been responding to the pandemic in supporting multicultural communities.
- Two issues of newsletter were published, the June issue with a focus on ‘Connecting with multicultural communities during COVID-19’. IFLA and Section news and updates were shared among a wide audience.
