International Women’s Day 2020: Advocacy Kit for Libraries
International Women’s Day is drawing near, and the celebrations in 2020 will hold special significance in light of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. For libraries, this is an opportunity to join in the global discussion, celebrate the achievements, reflect on lessons learned and chart future action towards gender equality.
The year 2020 will hold particular significance for gender equality and women’s empowerment missions. On the one hand, the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action will be marked by a large-scale review process and extensive dialogue on how to make further progress towards gender equality. On the other hand, we are entering the decade of delivery on Sustainable Development Goals, which enshrine gender equality in Goal 5.
As such, this year’s International Women’s Day will take place among many activities and initiative dedicated to catalysing decisive action to deliver on gender equality within this decade.
To inspire library and information professionals to join the conversation, IFLA has prepared a 2020 International Women’s Day Advocacy Kit for libraries! In this kit, you will find:
- An introduction to 2020 International Women’s Day and why this year’s celebrations hold special significance;
- An outline of IFLA activities around International Women’s Day 2020;
- Key messages to share on this Women’s Day;
- More suggestions on how libraries can celebrate the Day and help champion gender equality every day.
We wish you the best of luck in preparing for the 2020 Women’s day, and look forward to continued engagement of library voices in the discussions on women’s empowerment and gender equality!
