The United Nations will convene the Transforming Education Summit in September 2022 to accelerate action towards reimagining education systems which overcome the barriers of today and meet the challenges of tomorrow. To begin setting the agenda for this Summit and building a common understanding of key themes to be addressed, UNESCO is hosting a participatory Transforming Education Pre-Summit from 28-30 June.

IFLA is excited to take part in this dynamic, interactive programme. Our engagement during the course of the Pre-Summit will serve to highlight how libraries and library professionals should be included as partners and co-creators in realising this transformation.

As a part of the agenda, we are excited to participate in the side event, Transforming Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with FAIR OERRs, Digital Innovation, and Diamond Partnerships. This side event is being organised by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, SDG Academy, The Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations, and the Center for Sustainable Development, Columbia University.

This event will bring together a range of stakeholders from government, intergovernmental organisations, civil society, academia, and the private sector to discuss digital innovation and partnerships on FAIR Open Educational Resource Repositories. The resulting dialogue is expected to result in recommendations towards furthering the application of such resources for achievement of SDG Target 4.7.

We look forward to continue contributing to these dialogues at the Pre-Summit, as well as to further engagement in the lead-up to the Transforming Education Summit in September.
