For the position of Governing Board Member 2015-2017

Khaled Mohamed Emam ElhalabyAs IFLA is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users and is the global voice of the library and information profession, it would be my honour to serve as a Governing Board Member for the coming 2 years. I completely understand the vital role of the Governing Board member and its responsibilities for the direction and future wellbeing of the Federation.   I am aware that it can be time-consuming and challenging work.  However, it is very rewarding to me as well as the profession in the Arab World. The opportunity to work with colleagues from different types of library and information environments and from different cultures is stimulating and promising.  As the president of AFLI (Arab Federation for Libraries and Information), I trust that my experience, knowledge and skills will be intriguing to the Federation and its Board.

Since 2013, we have a Joint Collaboration Agreement with IFLA, which is a formal agreement between IFLA and AFLI that sets out specific area of collaboration in 2013 and 2014, with the aim of building a strong network between both federations to increase the regional capacity to participate in international librarianship.  I trust serving on the Board will enable me to continue this collaboration and more joint projects in the near future.

As a member of Governing Board, I aim to be a supportive team player to the incoming IFLA President and President-elect on their future programmes and be responsible for the managerial and professional direction of IFLA, within guidelines approved by the Assembly.
