Accompanying Persons Tours

A half-day sightseeing tour is included in the Accompanying Persons registration package. IFLA and the National Committee are delighted to offer two options for the Accompanying Persons Programme. Tickets for one half-day guided bus tour can be reserved during the online registration process or when registering onsite at the Congress. Please note these tours are subject to availability.

1. Heritage Tour

Explore the three main ethnic enclaves of Singapore for a colourful introduction to Singapore’s unique cultural and architectural heritage. Start with Kampong Glam,the historic seat of Malay Royalty and be entertained by the stories of how Singapore was sold to the British for 60,000 Spanish Dollars. Admire the carefully restored and charming shop houses. Visit the old Palace and Sultan Mosque, pick up a tip or two on sarong-tying and discover various traditional trades which are still practiced in this charming enclave. In Little India, be bombarded by the sights, sounds and fragrant smells of our bustling Indian enclave! Have fun with interactive activities such as henna art and sweet sampling.Gain a deeper insight into Hindu philosophy through visiting SriVeeramakaliamman Temple. In Chinatown, step into the past at the Chinatown Heritage Centre and witness a vivid re-creation of life and living conditions during the early 1900s in this historic district. Visit the magnificent Thian Hock Kheng temple, a site marked by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards. Discover the ancient pantheon of Chinese deities, dragons, Lips of God, Divination sticks and Door Gods, not forgetting the fascinating immigration story of the Chinese during the 19th century.

2. Garden City Tour

Often referred to as a “City in a Garden”, Singapore is a nature-lovers delight.  Despite the small size of the country, Singapore has set aside land for hundreds of parks and tree-lined roads. A coach guided tour which will bring you to Singapore’s two most visited gardens. The first stop will be the historic Singapore Botanic Gardens.  Take a leisurely walk amidst the lush, verdant grounds of the 150-year old Singapore Botanic Gardens with its array of botanical and horticultural attractions with a rich history and wonderful plant collection of worldwide significance.  Includes visit to National Orchid Garden which is home to over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids. Next we will visit the newly opened Gardens by the Bay located at the edge of Marina Reservoir. Spanning 101 hectares, this award-winning horticultural attraction houses over 250 thousand rare plants and two cooled conservatories. Explore the Heritage Gardens and learn about the role of different plants in the lives of the South East Asian and Asian people.Be amazed bytheSupertrees- vertical gardens that combine multitude functions, and work as environmental engines for the gardens!
