The Membership Recruitment Toolkit

This toolkit provides you with comprehensive information and statistics about IFLA membership. With this knowledge, you will be well equipped to plan your strategies as far as membership recruitment and development is concerned. IFLA invites you to actively start recruiting new members. There are many ways to approach this task and this toolkit will support you in your endeavour.

So plan your strategy and start recruiting now!

Starter Kit

Help is at hand. Refer to the following recruitment tips to get you started
  • We advise you to start looking OUTSIDE the current membership base. Otherwise you are competing with other sections; a member cancelling one section registration to join another just creates administrative work.
  • Try targeting potential members in countries where there are only a few or no IFLA members.
  • Aim to attract different library and information services institutions and associations.
  • Pick your target. Institutions and associations are the categories with nomination and voting rights - they have the ability to determine the make-up of standing committees and they play an influential role in defining what's on the agenda as far as libraries and information services are concerned worldwide.
  • Why don't you add Membership development to your section's strategic plan? After all a large and diverse membership base on which to draw is vital to the success of your organisation.

The BENEFITS: Why should we join IFLA?

To answer this question, as the recruiter, you need to be aware of all the benefits of IFLA memberships. To make things easier we have stated some of the tangible and intangible benefits of IFLA membership.

  • Free copy of the IFLA Directory: the essential guide to who is who and what is what within IFLA; it includes IFLA Statutes, contact information for all professional groups, etc.
  • Free registration in 2 professional Sections. There are 45 to choose from, covering nearly every type of library and every activity related to the LIS profession. Furthermore members located in one of the 3 regions - Africa, Asia & Oceania, Latin America & the Caribbean - also receive free registration in the appropriate Regional Section.
