The conference will take place in the UNO buildings in Geneva.

9:30 AM – 12:15 PM
IFLA delegates' plenary session.
Welcome of participants.
General presentation of WSIS objectives.
Presentation of IFLA objectives in the WSIS context
Presentation of joint IFLA and UNESCO actions in the WSIS context.
Presentation of library-related initiatives.

1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Librarians' round tables.
Regional group discussion on library issues at stake in the information society.

4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Plenary session.
Assessment of round tables discussion.

8:00 PM
Reception at Palais Eynard.
Buffet offered by the City of Geneva.


4 November 2003


9:30 AM – 10:15 AM
Plenary session
with IFLA delegates and UN member states' delegates participating to WSIS.
Presentation of IFLA objectives to UN delegates.

10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Individual national meetings
between IFLA and UN member states' delegates.

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Continuation of individual meetings.

3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
General feedback
on individual meetings.
Meetings' overview will be published in the form of conference proceedings.

4:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Plenary session.

First assessment and closure by IFLA officials.

8:00 PM
Official reception.

Plenary session interventions will be translated simultaneously in French, English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Arabic.

Conference follow-up

An overview of the congress will be presented at a press conference.
A résumé of discussions will be published at the end of the preparatory conference in the form of proceedings (print and CD-ROM).

Conference proceedings will be distributed to all participants and to all UN permanent missions present in Geneva before the beginning of the summit conference itself.
