VIII. Division of Regional Activities

Scope

The Division is comprised of Regional Sections covering developing countries in three major regions of the world, the African continent, Asia and Oceania, and Latin America and the Caribbean. It covers the full range of professional activities and library types in those regions, although it works closely with the other Divisions which are organized along type of activity lines or by type of library. The Division has a special working relationship with the Action for Development through Libraries Programme ALP (Formerly: Advancement of Librarianship).

Mission statement

To create knowledge societies by strengthening the library and information professionals and by developing services provided by these professions through close cooperation with all IFLA bodies.

Goals:
  1. to facilitate access to information and life-long learning opportunities among all members of society,
  2. to create a well-educated, competent and self-renewing profession,
  3. to contribute to the creation of a robust information infrastructure in each member country,
  4. to create an information-literate population, and
