Science and Technology Libraries SectionSurvey of Scientific and Technological Information Needs in Less-Developed and Developing CountriesSearch History and StrategyFor this project, the literature review focused on the fields of library and information science, computer science, and most subject areas of the sciences with the exception of medicine and related fields. The aim of the survey was to gather pertinent information from the perspective of both libraries and scientists that would be of use to libraries and scientists in developing countries. The following represent possible approaches, searchers usually try many different combinations using varying levels of complexity. Actual search approaches will depend on the individual database and their search capabilities: whereas complex search strings might be used in Dialog, a simple search such as developing countries or third world in the ACM Digital Library is also effective. Note: truncation symbols (which are represented here by an asterisk), and field designations (which aren't included here) may vary in different databases.
