April 25-26, 2024, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical University, the Association of University Libraries of Kazakhstan, the Scientific Library of the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov and the Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical University, in collaboration with the IFLA Asia-Oceania Regional Division Committee, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and SDU University, are holding the XII international conference The Contemporary World Trends in the Development of University Libraries. Theme for 2024: Modern Library – a Key of the Quality of Information and Library Services of the University.”

The purpose of the conference is to discuss contemporary trends in the development of a university library and information and library support for higher education and science, contemporary priorities and trends in the creation and modernization of the university library space, software and hardware solutions to ensure the quality of services provided by the university library, current issues of professional information and library education, forms of improving the professional competencies of library staff, modern approaches and tools for assessing the quality of information and library services in higher education and science.

More than 160 heads and leading specialists of university libraries of Central Asian and other countries, as well as teachers of information and library disciplines, representatives of companies, suppliers of information resources, products and library software and hardware systems, and academic publishing houses have registered to participate in the conference. Kazakhstani conference participants represent 44 universities from 14 cities of the country; 28 participants from near and far abroad countries: Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Singapore, USA, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Switzerland.

The first day of the conference will be held at the Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical University, the second – at SDU University. The conference program includes plenary and three sectional sessions, at which 37 presentations and reports will be presented.

Ms. Lin Li Soh, Chairperson of the IFLA Regional Division Committee for Asia and Oceania and Director of the Partnership Division at the National Library Board, Singapore, is one of the esteemed guests who will be welcoming conference participants during its opening ceremony.
