UNESCO’s Internet Universality Indicators
â
With the internet playing an increasing role in our economic, social and cultural lives, the importance of it being inclusive grows. IFLA’s new brief explains a new tool for assessing whether this is the case.
UNESCO has recently published produced a set of ‘Internet Universality Indicators’ as a means of supporting national and global debate about how to ensure that everyone can benefit from the internet.
The indicators cover a wide range of issues, many of which are familiar to libraries through their existing work to provide universal and equitable access to information.
They provide a potential tool for libraries, both in thinking about how equitably the internet is working, but also in building partnerships and advocacy for change.
