National cataloguing rules

National cataloguing rules provide guidance on the selection and construction of access points and may cover other aspects of cataloguing, such as authority control, about which ISBD is silent.

Examples of national cataloguing rules include:

  • Regole italiane di catalogazione REICAT (2009)
  • Guide pratique du catalogueur
  • Chinese Cataloging Rules (CCR2)
  • Regeln für die alphabetische Katalogisierung (RAK), etc.

Some national rule sets, such as Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules second edition (AACR2), have been widely translated and adopted far beyond their original audience.
