Having lived and worked in environments where the majority of people do not have access to basic library services, I am interested in library policies and standards and lobbying for their implementation to ensure that strong library services and infrastructures are equitably developed and maintained to support inclusion and sustainable access.

I am active in IFLA and organized and hosted:

  • Association of Parliamentary Libraries of Eastern and Southern Africa in 1998;
  • Standing Conference of Eastern and Southern Africa Librarian (SCECSAL) in 2000;
  • IFLA Activity on Preservation and Conservation (PAC) Regional Workshop, titled: Preserving Pictorial Heritage: Photographs in African Collections in 2006;
  • IFLA Action for Development through Libraries Programme Core Activity (ALP) Reading Promotion Workshop in 2007; and
  • IFLA Africa Section mid-term meeting in 2007.

In support of libraries for development as well as building strong library associations I am organizing a Library Symposium carrying the theme of the IFLA President–Elect “Strong Libraries Strong Societies” scheduled to take place in Namibia, during October 2013.

I authored three monographs. I published in the IFLA Journal and co-author a paper which was rated among the best by the Social Sciences Division at the 2012 WLIC in Helsinki which would be published in the IFLA Journal 2013. I prepared and nominated the Hendrik Witbooi papers now inscribed into UNESCO’s Memory of the World register. I served as Vice President of the UNESCO’s International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World (2007-2010).

If elected, I pledge to support IFLA’s strategic goals that are empowering libraries and information institutions by supporting the development of policies, standards and building stronger library associations; and would actively support IFLA’s advocacy work with UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme.
