Affirmation, Opportunity: IFLA Presents on Libraries and the Sustainable Development Goals at the CILIP Conference

IFLA attended the CILIP Annual Conference, held in Manchester, UK, on 5-6 July. At a time where libraries in the UK are facing drastic cuts, this was a welcome opportunity to share new ideas and practices, and set out a proactive agenda for the future.

Better Laws Need Better Information: Parliamentary Libraries in Latin America to Intensify Cooperation

Parliamentary libraries play an essential role in ensuring that law-makers are best equipped to take the right decisions. The creation of the Network of Parliamentary Libraries for Latin America and the Caribbean will, through exchange of experience and cooperation, provide new tools for this work, further supporting progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Congo Creates Library Association Following BSLA Workshop in French-Speaking Africa

Our latest BSLA workshop brought together library leaders from French-speaking Africa, teaching them innovative skills and practices, and enabling them to take an active part in advocacy for the development of libraries in their country. The workshop outcomes were stronger library associations across the French-speaking countries of Africa, as well as a new national library association in Congo.

IFLA President’s Session in Columbus

The IFLA President’s Session will focus on how libraries have been responding to the continual changes in the information environment. Four high-level speakers will present keynote thoughts on how emerging trends since the launch of the IFLA Trend Report in 2013 have continued to pose challenges and opportunities for the information sector, and how innovative actors are responding to those challenges with new services and approaches to information provision.

Answering the Call to Action - ALP Session at WLIC in Columbus

Session 111, Answering the Call to Action - Action for Development through Libraries Programme (ALP) will be chaired by IFLA Governing Board Member and ALP chair Loida Garcia-Febo. Invited speaker is Minerva Novero from United Nations Development Programme. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear directly from the United Nations, IFLA and countries around the world working to achieve the UN 2030 Agenda, and the results of Building Strong Library Associations projects held at the regional level since 2013.

Building Strong Library Associations Programme successfully completes current round of activities

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Global Libraries Initiative partnered with IFLA to support the Building Strong Library Associations programme over three years from 2013-2016. At the conclusion of this grant in August 2016, the programme has achieved or exceeded its objectives. The programme will continue in 2017.
