Transforming the World Together: IFLA President and Secretary General Meet with China’s Librarians

The Library Society of China’s 2018 Conference, held on 31 May – 1 June in Langfang, China, provided a rich opportunity to engage librarians from across the country in building IFLA’s Global Vision. IFLA President Glòria Pérez-Salmerón and Secretary General Gerald Leitner attended, speaking and meeting with the thousands of participants.

The Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow (LIBFL) hosted a workshop: "Libraries and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: How can Russian libraries further development of the society?". The event was organized by Russian Library Association’s International Cooperation Section and the LIBFL Rudomino Academy with the financial support of IFLA International Advocacy Program (IAP).

Securing the Past, Shaping the Future: IFLA President Visits Moscow

IFLA President Glòria Pérez-Salmerón speaking at a round table in Moscow Libraries today are faced with trends that can both pose a threat and promise an opportunity. Globalisation and digitisation are unstoppable and are being felt around the world. Yet this shared situation underlines the value for libraries of working together to achieve our vision. This message came out clearly from a seminar held on 20 April in Moscow, with the participation of IFLA President Glòria Pérez-Salmerón.

Informed and Empowered Citizens in Asia-Pacific: Making the Case for Libraries at the UN

At the heart of success in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be resilience. Regions, countries, communities and individuals all need to have the resources – and the information – necessary to deal with a changing and unpredictable world. This was the key message from the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development, the second of five regional meetings on the SDGs in preparation for this year’s High Level Political Forum. IFLA was there.

IFLA joins forces with IBBY and ILA to increase literacy rates

IFLA will join forces with the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) and International Literacy Association (ILA) on Wednesday 28 March 2018 in Bologna, Italy and jointly sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work closely to increase literacy rates to 100 percent across the globe.
