Keeping up the Pressure in Geneva – A Report from WIPO

    Libraries and archives made a strong showing in the 32nd session of the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR), which met earlier this month in Geneva. On the agenda were the legal exceptions and limitations to copyright that allow libraries and archives to do their jobs, and how to make sure these work globally.

    Partners for Accessibility – IFLA and Latin American Blind Union sign Memorandum of Understanding

      IFLA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Latin American Blind Union (ULAC). Both organisations believe that we need to ensure the Marrakesh Treaty enters into force, and implement its principles on the ground. This agreement will allow us to make important progress towards ensuring equitable and sustainable access to information for visually impaired people.

      IFLA Statement on Public Lending Right Updated to Include eBooks

        On 9 December 2015, IFLA’s Governing Board approved an updated Statement on Public Lending Right (PLR) including a new section on eBooks. The updated statement identifies the complexities of considering PLR for eBooks, reinforces the need to involve libraries when considering changes to PLR programs to incorporate digital content, incorporates additional considerations for developing countries, and updates legal references from the 2005 statement.
