IFLA WLIC 2023 Satellite meeting: Librarying SDGs: sharing experiences for progress
The IFLA Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Division is organising a two-day meeting on the theme: Librarying SDGs: sharing experiences for progress.
The meeting will take place at the Rotterdam Public Library ahead of IFLA WLIC 2023 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Aim
To share experiences and best practices on SDGs and the role of libraries
Objectives
- To understand the current status of SDGs in national environment
- To Share experiences about best practices around the roles of libraries in SDGs
- To identify stories that would feed into the IFLA Library Map of the World
- To develop an up to date document of what libraries are doing to support the SDGs in Africa
- To create a platform for exchanging ideas that will foster networks beyond WLIC 2023 and related meetings
Programme
1. Partnerships for the Goals is an SDG
Maria Cotera
Maria Cotera is a former academic librarian in the UK and Spain. An activist in open science, data repository through Figshare to universities and research institutes. Her partnerships are across Africa the Middle East, & Europe. Has a long history in IFLA volunteerism.
2. Achieving SDGs 1,2, and 8: Sharing experiences on Libraries’ Involvement in Information Delivery to Farmers in Nigeria
Cecilia O. B. Adewumi and Adetoun A. Oyelude
Cecilia O. Bolajoko Adewumi has worked in an academic library for over 20 years. Presently, she is the Serials Librarian in the Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She is a member of the Nigerian Library Association. Her research interests are in Serials Management, Agricultural Information, Information and Communication Technology, and Library Architecture and Buildings.
Dr. Adetoun Adebisi Oyelude has 23 years’ experience working in an academic library. She is currently Deputy University Librarian (Readers’ Services) in the Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. A member of the Nigerian Library Association, the American Library Association, she is well published nationally and Internationally. She is a Member, Standing Committee of the Knowledge Management Section of the IFLA. Her research interests are in Library Administration, Information and Communication Technology, Indigenous Knowledge Preservation, and Gender Studies.
3. Written Heritage and SDGs: the experience of the Manuscript Library of Djenné (Mali)
Souleymane Sogoba
Souleymane Sogoba is in charge of documentation and communication at the Cellule de Planification et de Statistique du Secteur Développement Rural in Mali. He is currently volunteering at DOAJ as Associate Editor and Ambassador for several following international organizations (Next Einstein Forum and Core-Repository).
In the world of information science at international level, he is involved in the Information Technology Section of IFLA and in the Visibility of Libraries Section of IAMLL until his recent election to the Board of Directors.
At the sub-regional level, he is a member of the AfLIA Board of Directors; on behalf of AfLIA, he manages the ALVA Project, which aims to map all types of libraries in Africa (data collection).
In his home country of Mali, he is Head of the Partnership Section of the Réseau Malien de Documentation pour le Développement (REMADOC).
4. Creating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) to increase access to Climate Education in Nigeria
Sadiat Adetoro Salau, Jibril Alhassan Attahiru, Isah Yahaya, Musa Baba Adamu and Mustapha Abdulkadir Gana
Sadiat Adetoro Salau is an academic librarian at Federal University of Technology, Minna Nigeria. Her areas of research interests includes open scholarly communication, usability studies and digital library technologies.
5. Digital Equity and Literacy: University of Cincinnati community’s journey
May Chang
May Chang is the Library Chief Technology Officer at University of Cincinnati, with more than 15 years work experience in ICT and libraries. Her professional and research interests include digital transformation of organizations, technology innovations, and IoT and smart and connected communities. She is active in IFLA and is the IT Section Mentor and Library Building & Equipment Section SC Member.
