PAC Qatar Webinar – Celebrating World Day for Audiovisual Heritage
Audiovisual documents such as films, radio and television programs, and audio and video recordings contain the primary records of the 20th and 21st centuries.
In celebration of World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, this webinar will highlight some of the efforts in the Arab region to preserve the audiovisual heritage and the collaboration between IASA and Qatar National Library (as the IFLA PAC regional center) to create Arabic content through the project of translation of IASA technical standards.
IASA-TC 03: The Safeguarding of the Audiovisual Heritage: Ethics, Principles and Preservation Strategy.
IASA-TC 04: Guidelines on the Production and Preservation of Digital Audio Objects.
IASA-TC 05: Handling and Storage of Audio and Video Carriers.
IASA-TC 06: Guidelines for the Preservation of Video Recordings.
The world’s audiovisual heritage of sound recordings and moving images is extremely vulnerable and much of it has already been irrevocably lost through neglect, destruction, decay and the lack of resources, skills, and structures, thus impoverishing the memory of mankind. Much more will be lost if stronger and concerted international action is not taken.
The event will be conducted online via Zoom.
