2012 recipients of the Registration Grant to attend IFLA announcement

Each year, the Academic and Research Libraries section awards three grant to cover registration at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress. Each recipient receives € 435 registration expenses at the 2012 IFLA Congress. The Awards will be formally presented at Conference Session 165: 15 August 2012 09:30 – 11:30 | Room: 6 Hot topics in research support
The 2013 recipients are:

…”The opportunity to attend the IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2012 would contribute directly to my professional development because it would allow me to access the presentations and posters of librarians and specialists firsthand. It would also be an excellent opportunity to meet and build relationships with other library professionals worldwide.Because I am Chief Librarian of a government research library, I am extremely interested in the topics of sections Academia and Research Libraries, and Government Libraries. I’m sure that assistance to these WLIC sessions would enable me to see experiences from around the world, information resources and ideas to make the most of the resources we have. Also it would allow me to meet other professionals working in libraries with similar characteristics, which would be very useful for my professional performance and the development of the library in which I work through interlibrary cooperation”….

…”The Conference will give me the opportunity of interaction with international LIS Professional Associations Leaders to discuss management of a Professional Association in a developing country and o get new strategies to improve Uganda Library Association of which am the General Secretary. I should also have the opportunity to interact with experienced information professionals to share experiences which might have positive impact on as LIS educator. Through multiplier effect, these experiences would improve performance of colleagues at the Department of Information Studies I coordinate I intend to visit poster sessions, exhibitions, for exposure to developments and practices in the profession. Furthermore, the study tours to research and academic libraries should enrich my knowledge, skills and experience in running such institutions As the Coordinator of the Digital Services at the National Library of Uganda, I intend to participate in sessions including, Multimedia and Digital library section, the National Library Section, the Research and Academic Libraries section, Africa section, and the Special Interest Group of Education for Developing Countries to, share and contribute to the discussions and also share experiences and suggestion for the future.”…..
