IFLA attends Cycling for Libraries at the Dutch Parliament

Today, 20th of June 2013, about 100 librarians cycled through The Hague as part of the Cycling for Libraries initiative. The route this year takes them from Amsterdam to Brussels.
During their stay in The Hague, the librarians were invited to discuss current library issues with the Dutch Parliament. Staff of the IFLA HQ facilitated the table discussions and shared expertise on IFLA's current initiatives, with MPs and librarians.
This very interesting discussion highlighted the role of libraries as access points to information, the importance of libraries as agents for community development, the need for cross sector cooperation and the pressing issue of the need for a balanced copyright framework.
The outcomes of today's discussion will be taken by the cyclists to Brussels where they will have a further discussion with members of the European Parliament.
