IFLA Newsletter, Vol. 3, No. 11

Welcome to the November 2023 edition of the IFLA Newsletter!

There is a growing recognition of the need to address digital inclusion as part of any effort to reduce inequalities and promote cohesion.

Beyond the billions who remain unconnected to the internet and all the potential it brings for access to information, there are billions more who are unable to make the most of the connectivity that they have.

At last month’s Internet Governance Forum, the topic of meaningful access was therefore high on the agenda. This is a theme that libraries, of course, have long prioritised.

Indeed, we are uniquely placed to ensure this, thanks to the combination of connectivity, content, space and support that we can offer, so that everyone can fulfil their rights and realise their potential.

The theme of this month’s newsletter is therefore digital inclusion. Read on to find out more about our engagement at the Internet Governance Forum, as well as the revision of our Internet Manifesto. There are great contributions also from our Professional Units, looking at how libraries have innovated to ensure no-one is excluded from the digital world.

Beyond this, we have the latest updates from our President, Vicki McDonald, as well as our November Governing Board meeting, as well as our other work to advocate for libraries internationally.

There are also stories from our regions, and of course the call for expressions of interest in hosting our 2025 Congress.

Finally, you can take a look at upcoming events and open opportunities, and welcome our newest members.

Happy reading!
