Dear Ms. Tise,
Thank you very much for your message of condolence. We were deeply touched by your kind words and are thankful to know that IFLA family of the world's librarians are with us at this difficult time.
We are still learning the whole picture of the devastation wrought in Tohoku (north-east) region which was hit by 9.0 magnitude of earthquake and tsunami. The Japan Library Association is trying to gather information about the libraries in the region, though they are yet to establish contacts with local library associations and librarians in hard-hit prefectures.
Tokyo and further western parts of Japan have not sustained significant damages from the jolts and we are back to work at the National Diet Library.
Thank you once again for your warm support. I am sure that we will rise to and overcome this challenge.
Sincerely yours,
Makoto Nagao
Librarian
National Diet Library
