Marc Chauveinc passed away last month. French professional, General Inspector of libraries, he was well known for his skills in organising and in promoting the French language, especially within IFLA.

He organized the French IFLA congresses in Grenoble in 1973 (with 15 volunteers!), and in then Paris in 1989. He encouraged participation in the Federation of many French delegates. He was the first French translator for the American MARC format in 1969, he computerised the files of the Grenoble University Library, and he was at the birth of ELAG, the European Library Automation Group. Longtime treasurer of the French Committee for IFLA, for many years he pursued the translation of numerous IFLA UNIMARC updates.

We will deeply miss a very important personality in the world of libraries and of IFLA, who would have loved to live through this adventure today with us.
